In a surprising turn of events on Nova Scotia’s eastern shore, what began as a standard emergency response quickly turned into a headline-grabbing discovery. A luxury yacht, arriving from the Caribbean, ran aground just outside the town of Sheet Harbour, prompting a swift response from local authorities and the Canadian Coast Guard.

According to officials, the vessel appeared to have experienced navigation issues, though mechanical failure has not yet been ruled out. Onboard were two individuals who appeared disoriented but uninjured. What raised immediate questions, however, was the discovery of a large quantity of cash—reportedly totalling over $1.5 million in various currencies.

Authorities seized the funds and began an investigation into the origins of the money. Although the yacht was registered under a private holding company based in the British Virgin Islands, officials have not yet confirmed the identity or residency of the passengers.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Daniel Leblanc stated during a press briefing that the cash was found stashed in hidden compartments within the yacht’s main cabin. 'It was not a typical transport of personal assets,' he said, noting that the amount and concealment method raised red flags.

The incident has since drawn the attention of the Canada Border Services Agency, which is exploring possible links to money laundering or undeclared importation. No formal charges have been laid at this stage, and the individuals on board were released pending further investigation.

Marine experts are also examining the damage to the yacht, estimated to be worth over $3 million. Salvage crews worked through the night to prevent environmental damage from a potential fuel leak. The vessel was eventually towed to a Halifax port for further inspection.

Local residents, meanwhile, have expressed shock at the situation. 'You expect fishing boats or maybe a cruise ship sighting around here,' said coastal resident Sharon Moore. 'But a luxury yacht full of cash? That’s a first for us.'

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation until official findings are released. Meanwhile, surveillance footage from surrounding marinas and customs entry logs are being reviewed to reconstruct the yacht’s journey before the crash.

This isn’t the first time Nova Scotia’s shores have seen mysterious maritime events, but it’s certainly among the most sensational in recent years. Investigators are expected to release preliminary findings within the coming week.
